Principal's Message
Grant Hanevold Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the opening of the 2009/2010 school year! The teachers, custodians, support staff, and administrators have carefully prepared the school and all instructional materials to provide an outstanding and safe learning environment for all students.

Parent involvement is always an important element to our success. Please take this opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to your student, the entire school, and the local community by serving on any of the committees available to parents. Parents/guardians are invited to consider joining the Parent Advisory Council (PAC). This is NOT an elected position or organization. The purpose of PAC is to offer your opinions and suggestions, to ask questions, and to receive the most current school information. The first PAC meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Principal's Conference Room.

Please remind your son/daughter to carefully use and maintain the school's textbooks. Students will be held accountable for the maintenance of the textbooks and will be charged for any damage or loss. Every student will be issued a locker. Students must not share lockers or locker combinations with anyone else. All students will be given a P.E. locker while they are taking physical education classes. These lockers will be used to store P.E. clothes only.

This year we will embark on the second wonderful world of Empowerment. Empowerment schools are designed to improve learning and student performance through a collaborative partnership that includes students, parents, community members, and the school staff. Decisions regarding governance, instruction, budget, staffing, staff incentives, and schedule/calendar are made at the school level, by the people who know the students best - parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. I certainly look forward to making Moapa Valley EMPOWERMENT High School the very best educational experience for your children.
